Friday night problems
I've got a bunch of names that are expiring/have expired with my old registrar. Some of them are quite good - my JetCash.com for example, so I thought I had better move them over to Name Silo whist I still had the chance. I'm stillĀ experimenting with my mobile lifestyle, so another coffee in McDonalds seemed to be the answer. After some prelims - checking emails, not finding a name to register, posting on Name Pros and stuff like that, I settled down to the transfer ritual. This involves a few operations -
- Verify that I still have control of the name
- Check the email addy, and change it if I need to
- Unloch the name
- Get the auth code
- Open the transfer box at Name Silo and enter the name and code
- Repeat for the next name
Fortunately NS has a bulk submission box, so that makes things a bit easier.
I was well into this routine, when there was a power cut for the whole of the area. Our utilities have gone to pot with increasing prices since our globalist government grabbed them, and sold them to a load of foreigners. The McDonalds is in a trading estate next to a major dual carriageway, and it was the evening rush hour. Mayhem ensued as the traffic lights failed, and there were at least 3 crashes. Police with blues and twos going didn't help matters either. I was chucked out of McD as the EU health and safety laws don't allow me to stay inside if there is a power cut. This is at about 5pm, and the whole traffic system surrounding the industrial block is gridlocked. I decided to wait in the carpark and chat to my partner. At about 5.30 the power came back ( we had been told that it wouldn't be back until 8pm). Previously they had chucked out all the food they had prepared, and I pointed out that it would have been a good move to give that to the dispossed customers - well that didn't go down to well. We were told that we couldn't go back to our seats untilabout 6pm when they had fired everything up. Fortunately the WiFi was working, so I was able to check a few things in the car park. At about two minutes to 6, the power failed again, and we were told they may not re-open for some time. I think the manager was under some major stress as he had to chuck the second batch of food. A futher complication was a car smash in the car park as one car reversed into another in the dark.
I gave up at this point and went shopping in the Asda supermarket (Walmart), and I'm now on their free WiFi with a cup of tea. Their WiFi is really bad, you would think that wih all their money, they could afford some decent hubs. I'll put off the transfers until tomorrow, rather than risk any more problems. There is a nice firework display visible from the car park. It's Guy Fawkes night in a couple of days, and I guessthis is an early celebration. I don't know why we celebrate his escapade. He may have been right, but unfortunately he got himself caught. I heard a few people say "Come back Guy Fawkes, all is forgiven".

One of the advantages of using a CMS such as B2evolution is that I don’t need ftp to maintain the site. Asda WiFi won’t allow me to use ftp.
